A Day Case Unit and Surgical Assessment Unit provides 24 hour care for surgical admissions and emergencies. Several dedicated General surgical theatres and an emergency theatre shared with other surgical specialties.
We are a committed and enthusiastic department with Consultants providing surgical cover and a special interest, as well as general surgery. The General surgical Consultants have good working relationships with Gastroenterology Consultants and surgical colleagues at the regional gastro-oesophageal and hepatobiliary/pancreatic cancer (Nottingham University Hospitals) centres and colorectal surgery at NUH.

This appointment supports the expansion of our surgical same day admission unit, with a plan for this to be extended beyond an initial 6 months. The applicant will be fully integrated in to the unit with active involvement in the on call rota (currently 1 in 10 but expected to increase with this role.) Involvement in the hot cholecystectomy service is advantageous and endoscopic/advanced laparoscopic skills are welcomed.
