Job summary
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic Higher Specialist Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable and flexible to join our Cellular Pathology team. The appointee will be based within the Histopathology Department at King's Mill Hospital, undertaking advanced histological dissection and taking overall lead of the dissection area.
You must hold the Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection and it would be desirable to hold the Advanced Specialist Diploma in Histological Dissection
The Department has sections of routine Histopathology, Non-gynae Cytology, Andrology, Immunohistochemistry and Mortuary; you must have good knowledge of HTA and Laboratory Accreditation requirements.
The Histopathology department has close links with Nottingham University Hospitals and is part of the wider Midlands and East 2 Pathology Network
Main duties of the job
The primary role is to act as a Higher Specialist BMS in advanced histological dissection, leading the dissection area, undertaking all aspects of dissection and training others where applicable
In addition to this you will be working closely with the departmental training officer and quality officer to facilitate the continued maintenance of quality and competency standards within the department.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of histological dissection and have in depth scientific knowledge in this area including joint responsibility with the Consultant Histopathologists for the dissection of category A, B, C, D and E samples
You must hold the Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection and it would be desirable to hold the Advanced Specialist Diploma in Histological Dissection
You will be expected to train and develop the competence of MLAs, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists and Advanced Dissectors in the procedures for which the post holder is responsible, as agreed with the Training Officer and/or laboratory manager and/or Consultant Histopathologists
You will be responsible for overseeing the work carried out by a team of technical staff to deliver a fit for purpose laboratory service and ensuring a timely workflow including undertaking regular audits within the dissection area to ensure that all equipment is being used appropriately and SOPs / the BMS Dissection Policy are being followed
You will be expected to create, maintain and review documents including SOPs, risk assessments, training documents and training records
All duties must ensure compliance with good work practices in accordance with UKAS ISO 15189 standard (2012) and the Human Tissue Authority
