The role will oversee operational leadership of the Income and Planning elements of the Financial Business Intelligence team, ensuring that as a finance function we are fully sighted on the in year and medium-term plans of the trust. Providing a link in with the operational activity and workforce planning leads ensuring that we have a triangulated approach to planning.
Main duties of the job
- Liaising with relevant organisational managers across the Trust to develop, produce and analyse high quality Finance and Activity data that can be used to develop and transform clinical services, while also providing high quality analysis to the wider Finance Team to aid planning, budget management and business case completion.
- Liaise with the ICS to support, understand and develop the use our Finance systems (e.g. SLAM) benchmarking, both within the trust and the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System.
- To be proactive in identifying potential cost and service improvements using the suite of information available to the team.
- To plan and prioritise a wide-ranging annual work plan, liaising with a variety of colleagues, including clinicians.
- Develop and deliver an operational work plan for the team to ensure the medium team direction of the team is understood and progressed.
- To manage the regular production of activity information and to provide expert advice, support and resolutions for any related queries.

The post-holder is responsible for:
- Overseeing operational leadership of the Income and Planning elements of the Financial Business Intelligence team.
- Responsible for ensuring both the Income system (SLAM) and the Medium Term Plan of the trust are maintained in a timely manner.
- Maintenance of a contracts register, so the Trust is aware of upcoming renewals/tenders and the process that needs to occur to support this.
- Liaising with relevant organisational managers across the Trust to develop, produce and analyse the Trust Medium Term Financial Plan, and also input into the Medium Term Activity and Workforce Plan, ensuring triangulation.
- Ensuring high quality analysis to the wider Finance Team to aid planning, budget management and business case completion.
- Leading on the development of Financial Business Intelligence Reports/Dashboards to be shared with the wider trust to help inform decisions on improvement patient care and ensuring financial sustainability.
- Liaising with the ICS to support, understand and develop the use our Finance systems (e.g. SLAM) benchmarking, both within the trust and the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System.
- Ensuring expert financial leadership regarding all aspects of the Trusts clinical activity, income and contracting processes is provided by the team, through ensuring the wider team are adequately trained and supported to do this.
- Supporting the Trust in developing and complying with its clinical contracts and to support contractual performance delivery from service line through to Board in line with our performance framework.
- Acting as lead point of contact for some of the main Acute Contracts that the trust hold with associated Commissioning Organisations.
- Ensuring that the submission timetables and deadlines of the external planning and monitoring information to NHSE and the ICS, are met and that reporting needs are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
- Ensuring that Internal Reporting of committee papers on a monthly basis showing and explaining the financial position of the trust is completed in a accurate and timely manner.
- Interpreting and updating the wider trust on any national and local planning and reporting updates, and ensure the trust is prepared to deal with any reporting requirements.
Support the wider function of the Financial Business Intelligence Team as required.
The post-holder is required to deputise for the Head of Financial Business Intelligence as required, across the range of professional responsibilities, including attendance at meetings.
