Job summary

The Costing Systems Analyst will analyse, amend, and adapt large and complex datasets and financial information to support the production of high-quality costing information (PLICS). The primary use of the PLICS information will be to support the service line reporting, service line reviews, and service improvements. The information will also be used to complete the national costing collection (NCC) return.

The post holder will develop and maintain systems that enable the production and utilisation of cost data, providing analysis and insight, and will develop and maintain links and relationships to services and systems that feed and support this.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the on-going administration of the costing system and contribute to developments of the system, including the incorporation of new data sources.
  • Ensure the integrity of the large volumes of activity data by administering (and developing) monitoring systems.
  • Monitor and analyse changes to the financial ledger and ensure accurate reflection in the costing model.
  • Run and update the costing model and dashboard outputs.
  • To be proactive in identifying potential data, ledger, modelling & costing developments
  • To be proactive in identifying key reporting dashboards or tailored reports for divisional and finance colleagues.
  • Utilise knowledge in Excel, SQL, and other appropriate languages to support and develop the costing processes.

Contribute to the development of service line and divisional PLICS reports.

Exercise judgement involving complex data which requires analysis and interpretation. In doing so this will include the exploration of new areas where there may be no or few precedents to rely upon.

Recognise patterns and inter-relationships in disparate sources of data, in order to model, interpret and appropriately advise recipients. The data itself being obtained from a variety of sources, such as financial, clinical, informatics or other systems throughout Sherwood Forest Hospitals.

Adopt a pro-active approach to finding and filtering the multitude of available data sources to develop the costing system and its use, in doing so achieve best in class standards.

Support the development and administration of the costing system, including the delivery of quality standards and maintenance.

Support the development of the standard operating procedures for the costing system.

Provide training support relating to costing outputs and interfaces, to Finance and non-Finance staff.

Support the design, production and distribution of routine costing information.
