Job summary

This is a training band 7 post and will paid under annexe U of Agenda for Change. The payment will be 70% in year 1 and 75% in year 2.

The post is a development role within the dermatology team, working closely with Senior Dermatology Nurse Specialists, medical and nursing colleagues, to provide specialist nursing contributions to the clinical management of patients with dermatological conditions. To ensure patients and carers receive holistic, multi-faceted support, coordinated care, and all the information they need, throughout the course of their condition.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for promoting and developing an environment that supports patient focused care and nursing staff potential. In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team the post holder is also required to develop, implement and evaluate care pathways, protocols, and policies, supporting new initiatives and procedures within the dermatology nursing field supported by the Senior Dermatology Nurse Specialists. The role involves providing specialist nursing practice, including advice, intervention and education to patients, their families and other health care professionals. The post holder is also expected to demonstrate self-initiative by supporting the specialist needs of dermatology patients when they attend for follow up clinics in the management of their care ensuring patient assessments are carried out, treatment plans are provided and appropriate investigations and referrals are undertaken in conjunction with the dermatology team. The post holder will be expected to develop further skills as an independent non-medical prescriber to support patient care (time scale within 18-24 months of post), upon successful completion the banding will be reviewed.
