Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Diabetes Dietitian to join our Diabetes Team to develop our diabetes transition and young adult care service. Following a successful funding bid, we are able to offer a fixed term until end March 2025 with the potential of this becoming a substantive post.

The dietitian will be part of the wider diabetes multidisciplinary team with a focus to improve standards of diabetes care especially in the age group of 19 - 25 years. We are looking for someone with a passion for diabetes to provide specialist support and education for patients and their families and other health care professionals.

The role involves working autonomously as well as within the multidisciplinary team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties:

  • Support several clinics, including transitional MDT clinics (17-19 years), diabetes young adult clinics (19-25 years) and joint dietitian-diabetes specialist nurse clinics.
  • Provide support and education to people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and support management in the use of insulin pump therapy.
  • Create/adapt structured education course to appeal to the younger patient
  • Work closely with DSN to establish links with primary care and other community providers to identity different mechanisms to support young adults with diabetes in the community
  • Take part in student training
  • Capture data on quarterly basis to evaluate the service

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified Dietitian (4 year degree, post-graduate diploma or equivalent).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Desirable

  • Leadership/management training.
  • Member of relevant BDA specialist group
  • Relevant post-graduate course or equivalent

Skills, Knowledge & Personal qualities/attributes

Essential

  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training.
  • Able to work as lead member of dietetic and multi-professional teams, building relationships with patients/carers, and other staff.
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information.

  • Experience in training and supervision of student dietitians
  • Experience of managing/supervising others

Desirable

  • Additional depth of theoretical knowledge to masters level or equivalent.
  • Experience of other elements of management
