Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Department of Clinical Microbiology a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the team. Experience working in a Clinical Microbiology Laboratory is desirable, however candidates with other laboratory experience will be considered.

You will act as an assistant, helping the Biomedical Scientists to provide a diagnostic service to clinicians and other users as an aid to the diagnosis and treatment of infections.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to perform a range of supporting tasks, liaising with the Biomedical Scientists, to ensure diagnostic support and treatment for the patient.

The Department processes around 470,000 specimens a year and is based in a modern laboratory that opened in 2006.

The Department routinely works 7am until 9pm, utilising early, core and late shifts. The successful applicant will be contracted to work 5 out of 7 and participate in the out of hours service. The payment scheme is in line with Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

You must:- Hold a C or above in GCSE in English and Maths (or equivalent)- Have a good knowledge of Medical Terminology- Participate in the 5 in 7 working pattern and out of hours service
