Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) as Consultant Clinical Scientist, to start as soon as possible. This post is ideal for a Haematologist with a special interest in a haematology discipline. Applicants should be HCPC registers and hold full FRCPath.

The successful candidate will be the Clinical Director for the Laboratory Haematology department with responsibilities as Clinical Lead for the Blood Transfusion service and the antenatal screening element of Haematology.

Main duties of the job

Having a broad range of experience and knowledge in Clinical Haematology is essential for this post along with clear leadership skills and an ability to work well as part of a team. The post-holder will provide analytical, scientific and clinical interpretation and expert clinical advice on Haematology tests to medical, nursing, and other staff within the Trust as well as to primary care and to other users of the service. A specialist interest will be encouraged, in keeping with the needs and resources of the department and those of other scientists. There are opportunities for teaching and research both within the department and collaboratively with clinical colleagues.

As part of the senior management team the post-holder will be involved in the operation, scientific direction and strategic development of the regional Clinical Haematology service to deliver this service to national accepted standards.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of general clinical haematology and a range of subspecialties demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning
  • High level of technical competence

Desirable

  • A working knowledge of other disciplines in Pathology

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master's Degree in relevant science Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (The FRCPath is an exit professional qualification designed to ensure competence to practise as consultant).
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist

Desirable

  • PhD
  • Management Qualification

Further Training

  • Participates in CPD

  • Participation in Pathology modernisation related workshops/training programmes
