Job summary

To ensure that the Department of Spiritual and Pastoral Care Services contribute effectively to the provision of a high quality health service to the population served by Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust.

To manage the Department of Spiritual and Pastoral Care, establishing teamwork between the hospital Chaplains and other Trust Departments.

To facilitate and enable patients to be ministered to by members of their own faith community where appropriate. Supporting patients of faith or none.

To be the principle point of reference on spiritual, religious and multi-faith matters within the Trust and to contribute to discussion, advice and offer training on ethical matters

Main duties of the job

  1. To be responsible to the Divisional Manager for managing the Department of Spiritual and Pastoral Care, ensuring service delivery of the highest quality to meet Trust and national standards of care.
  2. To be the budget monitor for the Department of Spiritual and Pastoral Care budget, in accordance with the principles of Management Budgeting and Establishment Control.
  3. Effectively manage Human Resources issues within the Department including recruitment and selection, writing, reviewing, updating & agreeing job descriptions, staff appraisals, oversee career development, keeping staff records, disciplinary & grievance, monitoring annual & study leave, documenting & monitoring sickness absence and act according to the Trusts HR policies and procedures
  4. Provide Spiritual Care to patients, relatives, carers and visitors.

About us

We provide a Spiritual and Pastoral Care service across 4 hospital sites. The successful candidate will be based in the Faith Centre, and will also be responsible for managing the team of Chaplains and volunteers

The Faith Centre team strive to offer outstanding care to people of all faiths and none. We are proud of the care given to families who experience pregnancy and child loss, working closely with the bereavement midwife.

The team are multi-denominational and have close links with all Trust departments, offering care and support to staff and patients.

Knowledge Requirements

Essential

  • Anglican or Roman Catholic ordained Priest, eligible to be licensed by the Bishop. OR Free Church (affiliated to Free Church Federal Council) ordained or otherwise suitably accredited Minister, eligible for authorisation by appropriate Church authority.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond professionally, flexibly and sensitively in a wide range of expected and unexpected pastoral situations.
  • Chaplaincy Standards.

Desirable

  • Training in management and leadership.
  • Knowledge of information governance
  • Knowledge of risk management.

Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional

Essential

  • General education to degree level or equivalent professional qualification
  • Committed to continued professional development.

Desirable

  • Masters degree in healthcare Chaplaincy or related subject.
  • Management and leadership qualification.

  • Counselling skills
  • Bereavement processes and procedures.
  • Computer literate
