Senior Clinical Research Fellow in HPB/ Upper GI & Bariatrics Surgery

Job summary

This post sits within the Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery service and combines clinical research with clinical duties.

The primary role of the postholder is to undertake clinical and translational research projects within Upper GI and bariatric surgery under the supervision of Professor Ameet Patel. Projects may include clinical studies, database research and potentially collaborative laboratory-based work.

The appointment is for 12 months initially, with potential extension subject to satisfactory progress. The post includes participation in the General Surgery registrar on-call rota.

This role is particularly suited to doctors who have completed core surgical training and are seeking to strengthen their academic portfolio and consider application for a higher degree or higher surgical training.

The appointee will participate in departmental teaching and will have a named educational supervisor.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will undertake clinical research projects under the supervision of Professor Ameet Patel with the aim of producing work suitable for peer reviewed publication. The post is structured to support academic output, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to manuscripts and presentations at national and international scientific meetings during the appointment. They will be expected to provide weekly progress report on their research.
