Job summary
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse or operating department practitioner to join our senior leadership team as Matron for Quality, Safety & Governance within Theatres, DSU and POA at King's College Hospital.
You will play a pivotal role in leading, coordinating and advising on all aspects of clinical quality, safety, risk management and governance processes, ensuring our services consistently meet local and national standards and deliver the highest quality of care.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and visible leader who is passionate about patient safety, quality improvement, and embedding a culture of learning and excellence within perioperative services.

Main duties of the job
- Lead, coordinate and advise on governance, risk management and safety improvement across Theatres, DSU & POA.
- Monitor internal compliance and oversee governance and service improvement projects.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and deliver service development initiatives.
- Develop project plans, compliance trackers and audit tools to ensure robust monitoring and reporting.
- Support and lead investigations into incidents, complaints and potential litigation cases.
- Facilitate learning from incidents and patient feedback, embedding this into clinical practice.
- Contribute to NHS Resolution, CQC and internal assurance requirements.
- Participate in "Back to the Floor" clinical activity for up to 25% of your role.
- Promote and support staff education, mentorship, and professional development.
- Represent the care group at Trust-wide governance and Modern Matron forums.

- To work alongside and support R&G Lead and the T&A Management team.
- To provide Clinical/Nursing support when investigating accidents and incidents and identify and implement corrective action where necessary, in conjunction with the R&G Lead, Head of Nursing and Clinical Director
- Meet with Clinical/Nursing Leads to take detailed briefs and clarify specific requirements of each policy/project/innovation change.
- Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clinical and nursing teams for education/training roll out.
- Develop spreadsheets, trackers, and process maps for compliance monitoring (Mandatory/statutory/CQC compliance)
- In conjunction with senior management team support and implement successful cost reduction and/or efficiency proposals generated through safety or compliance initiatives.
- Present cost analysis proposals and evidence to support them where new quality initiatives realise cost pressures.
- Keep abreast of regulatory developments and changes within Theatres, DSU & POA. health service as well as evolving best practice within the T&A Care group
- In conjunction with R&G Lead / HoN develop detailed project plans and track project performance and reports against objectives.
