Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and well organised Medical Secretary / Pathway Co-ordinator to work within a busy, supportive and dynamic service for Kings College Hospital based at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential as the post holder will be expected to be able to communicate effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people including patients, colleagues, sub-contractors and external agencies to ensure continuity in achieving excellence in patient care.
The ability to work under pressure and exercise judgement when dealing with tasks is essential to this role. The post holder will ensure confidential and sensitive information in relation to patients is kept secure and will follow the policies and procedures for the Department and the Trust. It is vital that the post holder will proactively assist in maintaining high standards and professional practice
Main duties of the job
- Using all Trust systems and processes to provide a full secretarial service to the clinicians including processing of clinical letters and reports.
- To ensure all patient demographic details (address, postcode, G.P. & Ethnic Group) are checked and any amendments / corrections are carried out in an accurate and timely fashion.
- To act as the first point of contact for service users of the Trust, dealing with email and telephone enquiries promptly and efficiently, providing immediate response and referring on as necessary. These will include personal enquiries from patients and their relatives, as well as calls from G.P.'s, clinicians, nursing and administrative staff, at all times.
- To organise and maintain electronic diaries when needed for the consultants and team as required.
- When required, to deal with fellow colleagues in accordance with the working methods of the relevant consultants and Trust procedures.
- Booking follow-up appointments for patients and changing appointments when requested by patients and consultants.
- To ensure rigorous RTT / PTL pathway monitoring and immediate actions taken to ensure patient pathways are correct in line with the Trust Access Policy.
