King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Research Fellow in Hepatology

The closing date is 15 August 2025

Job summary

This 1 year post is designed to offer a unique 50:50 split between Clinical Hepatology Service Provision/Training and Translational Research & Clinical Trials Experience. The successful applicant will undertake a translational research project supervised by Dr Vishal Patel and his research group focusing on the rapid infection diagnostics in cirrhosis (RIDiC) study, with an opportunity to also be involved in clinical trial delivery. RIDiC has attracted external, peer-reviewed funding (GUTS UK) and is being conducted as part of an investigator-initiated study, supported by Oxford Nanopore UK. Many of the techniques relate to novel microbiome workstreams also being researched in the Patel lab, with the candidate having unique exposure to these aspects as part of the role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be involved in fixed clinical commitments which will be determined by both their clinical training needs and the service requirements of the Liver Unit. Clinical service commitments will include 2 outpatient clinics per week as well as involvement in MDTs and clinical governance, and will complement to an extent the research project.
