Staff Nurse - Chemotherapy Day Unit

Job summary

In 2017, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH) and Macmillan Cancer Support (Macmillan) entered into a strategic partnership to improve the cancer patient experience for people receiving care. The success of the programme led to Trust investment in key roles and services to sustain improvements and further drive quality of care. There are a number of new cancer posts and services that King's has invested in across different specialties and care groups. We work collaboratively across the South East as part of the South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA). We are also part of King's Health Partners and have close links with Guy's Cancer Academy and King's College London.

This post is a result of a collaborative cancer patient improvement programme aimed at providing people with cancer an excellent experience of care and demonstrating commitment to supporting cancer care as one of the Trust's top quality priorities. The post holder will play a key role in developing nursing expertise in the delivery of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) to improve the experience of the local population for both malignant and non-malignant conditions. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a centre of excellence for haematological malignancies and liver diseases, with ongoing clinical trials at local, national, and international levels.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will join our growing dynamic nurse led team. This is a great training opportunity to develop new clinical skills while caring for cancer patients. We will offer you opportunity and support to complete chemotherapy-accredited module and complete UKONS SACT passport. You should have post-registration experience in an acute care setting and show commitment and motivation.

  • Deliver SACT within the trust.
  • Deliver innovative nurse-led SACT service, work closely with nurse practitioner to run clinics for patients receiving home delivery or self-administration of SACT.
  • Support patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical, emotional, psychological and social assessment.
  • Deliver and assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
  • Be advocate for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
