The Havens Children and Young people, 0-19 team is recruiting an Adolescent Nurse to join our dedicated multi professional team.

As the Havens Adolescent Nurse you will -

  • Have experience of working with children and young people in a trauma informed setting.
  • Have experience in sexual or adolescent health.
  • Provide telephone support and guidance to clients, family members, and professionals seeking support for people who have been sexually assaulted .
  • Have excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and knowledge of the impact of sexual assault.
  • Direct line management responsibilities.
  • Be joining a service that promotes and supports personal and professional development. Training and competency assessment of clinical work will be provided.
  • A genuine commitment to working with our client group is critical, and may involve staying late on occasions when/if clinics overrun or other unforeseen situations arise.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing guidance to partner agencies, such as parents and carers, emergency departments, children's services, GPs, CAMHS, sexual health providers, and law enforcement, on management options for young people presenting after sexual assault.
  • Support and maintain a 'Centre of Excellence', providing emotional, practical and safeguarding support to children and young people following serious sexual assault/abuse, and includes the offer of forensic medical examination, adolescent and child sexual abuse clinic appointment, addressing contraceptive and sexual health needs and referrals to ongoing support services.
  • Represent and advocate for Adolescents by attending multidisciplinary team (MDT), departmental, and external meetings.
  • To support young people, and professionals by helping them to navigate systems related to the recent sexual assault or non-recent sexual abuse .
  • To maintain stock and resources for children and young people .
  • To support with clinic preparation and chaperoning as and when needed .
  • To support with maintaining accurate databases of services supporting (Pan London) for CYP victims of sexual assault/abuse.
  • To support with collating CYP daytime rota's.
  • To support with maintaining CYP data spreadsheets.
  • To support with high standards of infection control procedures .

Liaise with police, self-referring clients, and other referrers to initiate appropriate courses of action for victims of sexual assault. Communicate sensitively and effectively when dealing with difficult and distressing issues, ensuring appropriate liaison with young people, social care, police, and other personnel in challenging situations. Act as a crisis worker during forensic medical examinations, advocating for clients, aiding in the collection of forensic evidence, and ensure effective forensic decontamination. Provide advice on the prevention of pregnancy and prophylaxis against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and Hepatitis B.
