Job summary
This is an established post, bringing the complement of ST3-S7 equivalents within the Department of Orthopaedics to 12 Clinical fellows in Denmark Hill site. We also have seven NTN registrars who are part of the South East Thomas Orthopaedics Training Programme. There are 11 Senior Clinical Fellows who are all post FRCS (T&O). There are 8 FY1 trainees at Denmark Hill. The successful candidate is expected to supervise the FY1 as well as having duties in outpatients, theatres and cover for the ED.
Main duties of the job
This is an additional post, bringing the complement of SpR equivalents within the Department of Orthopaedics to twelve. There are seven specialist registrars who are part of the South East London Orthopaedic Training Programme, 5 trust grade registrars.
The post holder is expected to supervise the work of the JCFs and FY1s and undertake regular ward rounds during the week along with the rest of the team. The general duties of the post include clinics (elective and fracture) and theatre lists (elective and trauma). There is a big emphasis on audit, research and teaching with numerous educational opportunities present in the department regularly. Participation in all these activities is encouraged and supported.

The post will be based at Denmark Hill and this will be reviewed within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post.

Together with other colleagues to provide a service for patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
Participation in Multi-disciplinary Meetings.
Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.
Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.
Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trusts R&D framework.
Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.
