Job summary

The SHO is a key member of the Dermatology team at King's. This is a post which has been in existence for over 25 years and, in its earliest iteration, was a part of the King's Medical SHO rotation. The job then became a constituent of the GIM/Acute Medicine junior doctor complement. It is now a stand-alone post recruited by, and managed from, the Dermatology Department.

Main duties of the job

Senior House Office in Dermatology: August 2025 to February 2026.

Applications are invited for an SHO post in the Department of Dermatology (6 months fixed term), King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The appointee will join a friendly and active department with an excellent reputation for teaching and training.

The King's Department of Dermatology delivers a range of out-patient dermatology services as well as managing acute skin disease for the hospital's in-patients (liaison dermatology). In addition to general adult dermatology we also deliver specialist clinics in paediatric dermatology, skin cancer, cutaneous allergy, genital dermatoses (male & female), sarcoidosis, biological therapies, haemato-dermatology, and dermatomyositis. We hold a monthly 'complex case' clinic.

The Department of Dermatology is housed in its own dedicated unit. All the activity of the department is accommodated within this unit, including clinic rooms, day treatment facilities, phototherapy and operating theatres. The departmental secretarial and administration offices are also located within the unit, as well as the offices for medical and nursing staff.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and will be required to meet the essential criteria as described in the person specification.

The burden of skin disease amongst in-patients is high, either as a primary cause for admission or as a secondary clinical problem. Referrals are sent through to the LDS from the wards every day and the JCFs role is to collate the referrals, organise the daily ward rounds, and perform the in-patient skin biopsies.

There is also an opportunity for the successful candidate to have their own theatre list.
