Nurse Practitioner – Practice Development

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and dedicated Sexual Health Nurse to join our nurse practitioner team within our integrated sexual health service. If you are passionate about sexual health, eager to grow as both a clinical leader and practitioner, and committed to advancing nursing practice development, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will deliver expert nursing care in sexual health and contraceptive services, offer clinical leadership within the nursing and multidisciplinary team (MDT), and collaborate with the Matron and Senior Sister to develop and maintain high standards of nurse-delivered care. You will also lead initiatives to ensure an exceptional patient experience while contributing to the ongoing development of nursing practice.

To succeed, you will need significant clinical experience in sexual health at a Band 6 level, as well as a qualification in contraceptive care and competence in the insertion/removal of contraceptive implants. Competence in IUD insertion and non-medical prescribing is desirable, or a willingness to undertake training. The ability to improve quality and patient satisfaction, along with a well-organized and resilient approach to a busy and diverse clinical service, will be essential for success in this role.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the delivery of an expert specialist nursing service for people requiring Reproductive & Sexual Health Services
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of STI treatment and contraception to utilise advanced knowledge and skills and undertake procedures and practices such as bimanual examination, proctoscopy contraceptive implant insertion and removal, IUD insertion and removal and specialist follow up clinics.
  • To maintain primary responsibility for ensuring the department provides a progressive learning environment for all grades of qualified and unqualified nursing.
  • To support with statutory and mandatory training as required to ensure compliance within the department.
  • To promote and facilitate evidence-based practice and clinical audit within the Trust, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care and informing business and service development plans.
  • To work collaboratively with as other MDTs at Denmark Hill or Beckenham Beacon sites where care needs require
  • To actively participate in education events provided by the trust and primary care sector.
  • To act as the education and training nursing lead for the Reproductive Sexual Health department.
