Job summary
This post has been designed to run as a clinical post for one person over a year, extendable to 2 years subject to approval. In addition to covering clinical services in clinic and theatre, the candidate will have a unique opportunity for specialized training in metabolic surgery, diabetes surgery and also to perform research, conduct clinical studies and publish and present his or her studies in National or International journals and meetings. The person in post will be expected to participate in clinics and also will be on the on call rota as a Senior Clinical Fellow covering General Emergency and Trauma Surgery.
Main duties of the job
As part of the programme the fellow will be involved in all aspects of the firm's work including pre-, intra-, and post-operative management of complex laparoscopic bariatric and metabolic surgery cases. During this year the fellow will conduct clinical and translational studies and participate in the collection of clinical research data. Publication of research material and presentations at national and international conferences is expected.
Involvement in research activities about the mechanisms behind the effectiveness of bariatric/metabolic procedures, including novel GI devices for obesity and diabetes will be encouraged. The Fellow will be exposed to a wide variety of advanced surgical procedures, in a busy tertiary hospital offering numerous opportunities to develop specialized clinical skills in this area of surgery. The post is particularly suited for candidates who desire to develop an academic career in bariatric and metabolic surgery
