An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Therapies service at King's for an expert with strong clinical experience in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
The post is based within the musculoskeletal physiotherapy Consultant team. You will be key to service transformation work and deliver the Clinical Leadership for the MSK and MCATS services.
King's is a Major Trauma centre and a centre of excellence for Neurosurgery. The physiotherapy service has strong links to clinics and consultants in these specialities as well as Orthopaedics; Rheumatology and Primary Care in Southwark and Lambeth. You will be contributing to pathway improvement within King's hospitals and the community and across the region to share best practice. We aim to achieve high quality care in the right place at the right time for all patients.
You will have an active role in education & research both within King's Health Partners (King's College Hospital; King's College London; Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS Trust) and across the regional network. Therefore you will have strong, teaching, and presentation skills including lecturing.
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust serves the local populations of Lambeth, Southwark and Bromley Boroughs. There will be opportunities to have influence over future service design for the sector.
Main duties of the job
To be an expert practitioner in musculo-skeletal (MSK) physiotherapy, to carry a caseload and work with an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability in the provision of clinical care to patients, carers and professional colleagues.
To be an expert consultant providing innovative clinical leadership and contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust and the physiotherapy profession in the management of patients with musculo-skeletal disorders
To contribute to leadership and delivery of the KCH MSK physiotherapy service by providing monitoring and evaluation of a high quality, safe, effective and efficient service, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence and facilitating patient access within safe parameters
To lead, develop and support staff within the MSK physiotherapy service, providing education and supervision & professional development to senior physiotherapy clinicians as well as the wider team
To work in collaboration with academic institutions and lead on & initiate education, training, research, audit and practice development within the field of Musculo-skeletal physiotherapy at KCH, and support other staff in their development
To contribute to planning and policy development within physiotherapy, the Care Group and the Trust
ITis expected that this post will be approximately minimum 50% clinical practice.

- To work collaboratively with other Clinicians to provide the expert clinical overview of all the Kings College Hospital musculo-skeletal services, ensuring they are led at the highest clinical standard, which is evidence based.
- To have overall responsibility for the efficient, effective and safe management of all patients referred to MSK physiotherapy services by ensuring appropriate categorisation of referrals and all clinical governance issues associated with the service including that of first contact practitioner.
- To have own complex clinical caseload undertaking full assessments and independently planning individual, highly specialised, evidence-based, treatment programmes for patients depending on their own diagnosis, using expert clinical reasoning and a variety of highly specialist skills.
- To request, interpret and act on investigations such as scans and blood tests.
- To take forward the role of non-medical prescribing for physiotherapists working in the musculo-skeletal field, as required.
- To recognise boundaries of own extended role and always manage associated risk
- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, knowledge of indications and precautions of chosen techniques in line with national and trust clinical guidelines, protocols and pathways where they exist and support junior staff to do likewise.
- To take overall responsibility for the production of clinical guidelines, local policies and development of new working practices, by multi-professional members of the team, ensuring they are evidence-based, implemented and audited having taken into account any national priorities/directives.
