Job summary
King's has a number of tertiary care specialities and our successful rotational programme is designed to offer clinical experience in providing high quality pharmaceutical care to patients across all sites of the Trust.
Rotations include anticoagulation, clinical services, hepatology, paediatrics, neurosciences, medicines finance, specialist medicine, cancer & aseptic services, acute medicine, surgery and clinical trials.
This post would be suitable for an individual who is looking to develop their clinical skills across a range of specialities, as well as their leadership and managerial skills.
The rotations have structured objectives designed to ensure that the participants gain sufficient experience and skills while contributing to the department and Trust priorities.
The successful applicant will be a team player with significant clinical experience as a registered hospital pharmacist, excellent interpersonal skills, a strong desire to learn and a meticulous attention to detail.
Main duties of the job
Key activities of the post holder in each rotation will be to:
- Act as a specialist practitioner and role model and manage the day to day pharmaceutical care of patients in the speciality.
- Attend daily consultant ward rounds in specific rotations.
- Respond to clinical queries both internally and externally.
- Produce monthly financial and activity reports including monitoring of cost savings initiatives.
- Conduct audit, quality improvement and research projects.
- Participate in activities such as risk management, clinical guideline development and staff training.

- The post holder will work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to provide and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services to the Care Group. The post holder will liaise between wards, departments andpharmacy to ensure that pharmacy services are tailored to meet the Specialty Care Groups needs wherever possible.The post holder will participate in the following:
- Act as a deputy for Specialist Pharmacist when necessary.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary team delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patientfocused pharmaceutical care to patients.
- Provide interface and discharge liaison, and support to the wards & units within the Care Group.
- Consistently lead on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the many sub-specialties within the Care Group and ensure a high level of clinical pharmacy input.
- Act as a clinical role model, and supervise rotational staff at ward level.
- Promote the safe use of drugs within the specialty.
- Develop, implement and audit local guidelines.
- Audit usage of medicines in the Care Group with the aim of promoting cost-effective prescribing
