Job summary
The Kings Dental X-ray department requires a HCPC registered, dynamic, knowledgeable and experienced Band 7 Radiographer. The successful candidate must have several years' experience in a senior Band 6 position, with a wish to progress in their radiographic career. You must be an enthusiastic self-starter, with good communication and developed interpersonal skills.
The Dental X-ray department is located across two sites, at Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill and Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup. Both departments have friendly, professional working environments and are fully digital.
In addition to numerous satellite x-ray units within Kings and Queen Marys, the departments have a total of 3 Cone Beam CT scanners, through which you will rotate. It would be advantageous to have Cone Beam CT experience, as the post holder will be expected to be proficient, however training will be provided.
You will be part of hard working teams, expected to be relied upon to work autonomously, supervising staff & students, as well as being able to deputise for the Dental Radiology Superintendent, when called upon. As Kings is a teaching hospital, there is emphasis on focussing your transferable skills towards teaching and delivering lectures, alongside clinical duties.
Main duties of the job
OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
- Help with organising the day-to-day workload.
- Undertake Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) scanning.
- Deputise for the Dental Radiology Services Manager in their absence.
- Assist with the supervision and training of Senior and Staff Grade Radiographers, Radiographic Department Assistants and Assistant Radiographic Practitioners
COMMUNICATION and REPRESENTATION
- To attend and participate in meetings including clinical, educational and developmental meetings.
- To undertake training as required including mandatory and statutory training, core skills training and ongoing developmental training.
- To take responsibility for own developmental learning and performance. To identify with the support of line manager appropriate areas of personal development.
- Participate in the teaching of staff members, nursing students and members of the multidisciplinary team.
RESEARCH & AUDIT - Initiate and participate in audit.
- Contribute to practice development in reaction to the findings of audit and recent evidence, implement recommendations, and monitor their effectiveness.
- Participate in clinical research within the department.
- Work with others in the development of research protocols.
- Ensure research standards, protocols and documentation are adhered to.

- To assist in the adaptation of service to respond to short term and long term demands, training staff to ensure the daily workload is organised in line with clinical priorities, rearranging work lists in case of equipment failure, while being responsive to the inconvenience caused to clients and other staff groups and other departments by short notice cancellation of procedures.
- Ensure development of, compliance with, and regular review of, Health and Safety policies and procedures within the specialist area, including ionising radiation and non-ionising safety policies, to provide a safe and secure environment
