Job summary

The Havens is London's Sexual Assault Referral Centre. The Havens provide comprehensive forensic, medical and aftercare services to clients who have experienced serious sexual assault within the past 12 months. We are a longstanding partnership initiative between the Mayors' Office for Policing and Crime and NHS England.

The CYP Psychology Service at the Havens provides CYP and their families, presenting with psychological difficulties post-sexual abuse with specialist psychological assessment and short to medium term interventions. Additionally, the service provides forensic interviewing of CYP, alongside being active in audit, research and training. The service has close links with local Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programs, offering both core and elective placements. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Clinical Psychologist to lead a warm, enthusiastic and proactive therapies team who prioritise evidence-based and trauma-informed care. The team encourages creativity, welcomes diversity and always appreciate ideas on how to improve our service.

Main duties of the job

o To develop, co-ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of a psychology service to children,o young people and their families attending the Havens, the CYP Psychology Service at theo Havens, and personally provide highly specialist clinical input.o To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds too flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.o To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist ino psychological assessment and intervention with children, young people and their families whoo have experienced sexual assault / abuse / exploitation.o To ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professionalo supervision and support of other psychologists within CYP Psychology Service.o To undertake service evaluation, audit, research and policy development.o To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct,o and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility foro interpreting policies within defined parameters.o To agree outcomes/results with clinical/professional lead and to decide how they are besto achieved.o To work closely with and advise the other lead CYP psychologist and Head of Psychology ando Counselling service on aspects of service delivery.

Clinical and Client Care To develop, co-ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of a highly specialist psychology service to children, young people and their families attending the Havens. To provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for clients in the CYP Psychology Service including: o Specialist assessment and clinical formulation of children and adolescents who have experienced sexual assault, rape or who have been sexually exploited. To include psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured / semi-structured and unstructured observations and interviews with the client, family members and others involved in their care. o Specialist evidence-based brief intervention for children and adolescents who have experienced sexual abuse / exploitation, monitoring outcomes and modifying / adapting intervention as required and drawing on a range of theoretical options, and supporting their transition to local services as required. o Undertake liaison psychology with The Havens and borough services, including: advocates; local borough CAMHS teams; local charity and third sector services; local early support services; and local IAPTS and school counsellors. To provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions with carers or families of referred clients when required. To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans. To develop, co-ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of a highly specialist psychology led forensic interview service, in collaboration with the Metropolitan police, for children and young people reporting sexual assault, abuse or exploitation. To undertake visually recorded forensic interviews (VRI) in collaboration with the Metropolitan police, following receipt of specialist training by the Metropolitan Police. To develop, co-ordinate and ensure an effective care pathway between CYP Psychology Service and London Sector CSA hubs / Child House(s), to promote coordinated, safe and effective client care and client choice. To provide consultation and supervision to services across South West London, as part of Havens CYP Psychology service development. To communicate skilfully, complex and sensitive information with clients, parents, carers, and colleagues taking account of sensory, developmental and cultural barriers to communication. To prepare written reports, including court reports as a professional witness. To work as an autonomous professional within Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC) and BPS guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or awarded the Statement of Equivalence in Clinical Psychology by the BPS or successful completion of the HCPC Period of Adaptation in Clinical Psychology)
  • Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice (relevant to working with child sexual abuse / exploitation) through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, Or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma.
  • Completed training course in clinical supervision.
  • Trained in evidence-based interventions for PTSD in children and young people
