Job summary
An exciting fixed-term opportunity (up to the end of August 2027) has arisen within the Clinical Engineering department at King's College Hospital. This 3-year post would suit someone with a background in medical equipment management, who is looking to develop into a wider governance role within clinical engineering.
There will be opportunities to provide technical support across the entire medical equipment life-cycle and become involved in service development projects related to medical equipment management.
The post holder will be supported to develop a portfolio of evidence of activity in the workplace to support professional registration at an appropriate healthcare science level.
Main duties of the job
This is a fixed-term post up to the end of August 2027, during which time the post holder will develop and work across all aspects of the Clinical Engineering service, providing technical support to ensure that medical devices are managed and maintained to a high standard. This will include working across device safety, procurement and asset register management.
This role will have a particular focus on ensuring accurate asset records are created and maintained, developing customised reports detailing equipment service history and leading inventory audits across the Trust. More broadly, the post holder will provide technical input to all aspects of medical equipment governance across the equipment life-cycle, including the planning and delivery of medical equipment procurement projects, establishing preventative maintenance levels, investigating safety related incidents, actioning safety alerts, and assessing risks associated with the use of medical devices in research.
There will be opportunities to become involved in service development projects related to medical equipment management and to develop skills in quality management and quality improvement. The post holder will be encouraged and supported to develop a continued professional development portfolio to support professional registration at an appropriate healthcare science level.

- Collate and interpret complex technical information relating to the service and maintenance requirements of medical devices and utilise that information to make recommendations regarding required service frequency and level of maintenance cover. Apply risk management techniques to aid decision making and maintain audit trials to demonstrate compliance with CQC regulatations.
- Respond to reports of adverse incidents involving medical devices. This may involve the complex fault finding on medical equipment and the production of detailed written reports to summarise findings and recommend appropriate action.
Interpret technical information from medical device related safety notices and ensure recommendations for remedial work are fully justified and actioned.
Provide technical oversight of external maintenance providers and identify opportunities to bring outsourced work in-house.
- Respond to requests for new or replacement medical equipment, liaising with end users and suppliers to capture clinical and technical aspects of equipment specifications.
