Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST6 to post CCT) to join Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This post provides the successful candidate with:

- Three sessions a week with opportunities for training in Gynae-oncology, Gynaecological Ultrasound, Rapid Access, Outpatient hysteroscopy and Colposcopy.

- There will be scope for major inpatient operating lists (for those who wish to maintain/develop surgical skills in major surgery. This needs to be discussed and agreed prior to appointment.

- The successful candidate will gain experience in preparing for and conducting MDT meetings and in looking after pre-op and post-op gynaecological oncology patients.

- The appointee will contribute to the provision of the out of hour's service to the department with other middle grade colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post will be as a full-time year 6/7 SpR in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at KCH NHS Foundation Trust, the post-holder will get an excellent opportunity to improve their surgical skills in Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology. They will gain experience in managing Gynaecological cancer patients by participating in multidisciplinary meetings and managing Oncology patients on the ward and in outpatients. The rota

for this post is designed such that there is maximum time spent training with the Gynaecological Oncology team. The post-holder will get time to pursue their special interests and will be encouraged to complete the Gynaecological Oncology ATSM with the RCOG. Additional ATSMs offered in the department relevant to this post include vulval disease and to develop ambulatory gynaecology skills. They are expected to conduct audit and research in the department.

About us

The obstetrics and gynaecology department is a busy unit with a full range of services currently arranged across both sites. The Denmark Hill (DH) site provides care for the surrounding population as well as undertaking tertiary referral work. The Princess Royal University hospital site (PRUH) provides obstetric and gynaecology care for women living locally with referral of complex cases for review on the Denmark Hill site.

There are currently 10 gynaecology beds, a dedicated gynaecology theatre and a day surgery unit based on the DH site. Inpatient gynaecology is split between the Denmark Hill site and the PRUH site, with the majority taking place at the PRUH. Day-case and ambulatory services along with a full range of outpatient activity will be provided at both sites.

There is a well-developed Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) and One-Stop general gynaecology clinic service at DH. As well as providing general gynaecology, the service also supports special interests in gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, urodynamics, urogynaecology, infertility, assisted conception and a specialist menopause service. The department delivers a service principally to local women in the catchments of the two sites and maintains excellent links with local General Practitioners.

Dedicated gynaecology beds are available for emergency and complex elective work at the DH site run by Women's services.
