Job summary
The post holder will help develop and optimize the department pharmacologistics service to ensure effective management of Trust wide medication supply. They will work alongside the Pharmacy Procurement and Clinical Services Teams assisting in the planning, operational delivery, rolling management and contingency mapping of medication supply issues.
They will be responsible for working collaboratively with Clinical Services, Procurement & Distribution and multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver a safe, effective, timely and cost-efficient medication supply service in the event of scenarios such as shortages, recalls, product discontinuations and major incidents so as to enable business as usual.
The post holder will be the designated specialist with regards management of medicine shortages and will be the responsible person for provision of professional leadership and advice on matters associated with this to departmental staff across all sites. They will work closely with the Clinical Services Team in developing and cascading information pertaining to pharmacologistics as required Trust wide.
This post will also assist in the provision of a ward based clinical service.
Main duties of the job
Key activities of the post holder will include:
Helping develop and implement a pharmacologistics strategy within Pharmacy with the aim of ensuring service continuity with avoidance of negative patient impact.
Responding to medication supply issues, helping assess the situation and level of response required liaising directly with the Clinical Services and Pharmacy Procurement Teams with escalation as appropriate to the Chief Pharmacist and/or Deputy Chief Pharmacists.
To be the pharmacy lead at regional and national meetings focused on management of supply issues and to summarise and cascade the necessary information to relevant stakeholders.
To work with the Clinical services and Pharmacy Procurement & Distribution Teams in developing a more operationally resilient pharmacologistics pathway across pharmacy with a focus on a proactive model of planning for supply issues.
To work closely with the Associate Chief Pharmacist for Procurement & Distribution in ensuring inventory management can be upheld and extended in event of any incident
Helping ensure quality standards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are agreed and in place for pharmacologistics.
To work with Formulary, Governance and Medication Safety Teams with activities aligned to appropriate management of supply issues.

- MPharm (Masters Degree)
- Registered Pharmacist (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification / experience
