Job summary

This is an additional post, bringing the complement of SpR equivalents within the Department of Orthopaedics to thirteen. There are 7 Specialist Registrars who are part of the South East London Orthopaedic Training Programme, 5 Trust Grade Registrars. The new post is a Trust Grade Registrar.There are 11 Senior Clinical Fellows and Trauma Fellows who are post FRCS(T&O). The department also has 8 Junior Clinical Fellows or Core Trainees and 8 FY1s.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to supervise the work of the JCFs and FY1s and undertake regular ward rounds during the week along with the rest of the team. The general duties of the post include clinics (elective and fracture) and theatre lists (elective and trauma). There is a big emphasis on audit, research and teaching with numerous educational opportunities present in the department regularly. Participation in all these activities is encouraged and supported.

Post holders who show appropriate progression may be able to extend their contract and rotate through the department firms.

Successful candidates can often be rotated into the orthoplastics firm this will depend on availability on the rota and candidate preference. There may also be opportunities to join in activity on the St. Thomas site where the more complex plastic surgery reconstruction currently takes place.
