Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Physician Associate to cover a 9 month Maternity leave.
The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that patient care is of a high standard at all times and that standards of care and treatment meet the department's and the Trust's requirements. The post holder will be an excellent role model and ambassador for Physicians Associates and will represent the department at local and external meetings as appropriate.
The duty consultant and the Specialty Clinical Lead along with an individual educational supervisor to oversee career development will supervise the post holder.
Main duties of the job
The role of Physician's Associate is the new development of a new model of clinical care in the paediatric liver centre at King's College Hospital (KCH) NHS Trust. The post holder will be principally ward-based within a specialist team working under the Clinical Lead and consultant team for the Paediatric Liver Centre. This will be with the aim of supporting the ward function, but also integrating within a wider nursing and medical team and growing a local specialty expertise as the role and this new model of working evolves, including outpatient reviews and lab test and result co-ordination.
This post represents an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Multi-disciplinary team in Paediatric Hepatology & Transplantation, contributing to the on-going development of clinical services, supporting high quality patient care, managing patient flow, improving patient experience around discharge and working closely with medical &surgical colleagues in all areas to support patient-centred care.

- The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the junior doctors team both medical and surgical (transplant and hepatobiliary). Duties will include the management of children with all forms of liver disease, the peri-operative care of children receiving liver transplantation, and liver and small bowel transplantation.
- To maintain continuity of care including contributing to various rotas.
- To assess and examine patients admitted under the care of the hepatology team, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend initial treatment.
- To develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience in the speciality, acting as a resource to the clinical team and allied health professionals.
- To contribute to achieving and maintaining any targets related to patients under their care.
- To support work related to national audits.
- To manage a caseload of specific speciality patients as determined by the consultant
- To communicate with GPs and other health professionals that may have had contact with the patient.
- To contribute to the development of efficient pathways of care in accordance with current best practice and national guidelines.
- To be an active participant in the development of the speciality through the Trust.

- PG Dip in Physician Assistant Studies or overseas equivalent
- Current and valid certification or re certification by the Physician Assistant National Examination
- Excellent in communication - written and verbal
- Cannulation and phlebotomy

- Knowledge of common conditions affecting children
- Able to work in a large multidisciplinary team
