Job summary
This clinical and research fellowship is intended to allow the successful candidate to get involved in and lead on neurosurgical research projects (paediatric and/or adult). The aim of the post is to provide ample opportunity for the candidate to boost the academic/research aspect of their CV in preparation for their next step in neurosurgical training or prior to taking up a consultant post. The candidate is expected to take full advantage and submit work for national/international presentation and publication and to take part in active on-going trials.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will also be expected to attend clinics and lead on some, attend MDTs and theatre lists and review/manage patients on the ward. The candidate will be first port-of-call for any locum work to fill gaps in the rota appropriate to his/her level of training although is not on an official on call rota.
The fellow will be expected at times to closely supervise and teach medical students and more junior trainees as well as help organise the paediatric neurosurgical teaching and courses we offer.
There is a formal training/teaching program for the registrars in all aspects of neurosurgery in addition to paediatric neurosurgical teaching. Although there will be no obligation for the fellow to participate in this program, it may be to the fellow's advantage or to the program's benefit, for him/her to do so from time to time.
There are excellent library facilities available with most of the relevant journals available.
