Job summary
The post will be based at Kings Colle Hospital, Denmark Hill with a commitment to providing surgical services at any other Trust site. The evolution of regional integrated care systems may also require the post holder to work flexibly within the region in the future. The proposed Job Plan is attached. There will be an average of 8.5 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care, with the remainder 1.5 being allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities. This is subject to review within 3 months of the potholder commencing in post.
The On-Call commitment is for a 1:13 rota which is classed as Category A. There is a commitment to undertake routine job planned work on Saturdays or Sundays as part of the total job planned PAs.

Main duties of the job
To provide support and delivery of orthopaedic trauma care for adult and paediatric patients in keeping with the requirements of the Major Trauma service.
To provide and support delivery of elective orthopaedic limb reconstruction services in line with the department's status as a tertiary referral centre. This may also include a commitment to providing some elective paediatric orthopaedic services.
To work alongside the existing orthoplastics team to provide comprehensive integrated care for patients with combined complex orthopaedic and soft tissue injuries.
An important aspect of the role is a contribution to King's subspecialty training. The consultant will be expected to supervise, govern, cooperate with, instruct, and teach doctors at SCF, SpR, JCF, SHO, F1/F2 level in their clinical work and audit activity of the unit. The Department is proactively involved with student teaching and regular student teaching is mandatory for the postholder.
