This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and effective team of clinicians to provide 9 months' maternity cover for this post. This small team of consultants and ANPs focus on improving Cancer Diagnostic Pathways, patient care and experience. We are now seeking maternity cover for our General Practitioner with special interest in oncology to further develop, deliver and embed our innovative model of care. Specifically the post-holder will deliver general medical and diagnostic expertise in the outpatient PRUH Rapid Diagnostic Clinic. Also, this position will help build primary and secondary care links across the South East London network to help improve patient access to RDCs.
Candidates should be GPs with interest in diagnostics, ideally with robust working knowledge of local cancer referral pathways. In short, this post is ideal for a clinician keen to work across care boundaries to produce more effective and innovative service delivery.
Main duties of the job
Roles and Responsibilities
The key roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- To actively participate in the smooth running of the RDC by:
- Assessing patients referred to the RDC and perform appropriate investigations to help establish a diagnosis, under supervision of the Clinical Lead.
- Communicating back the outcomes of the patient interaction to the referring GP.
- Providing support to the administrative team and ANP in triaging referrals to the RDC.
- Actively participating in the local RDC multi-disciplinary meeting (MDM).
- Troubleshooting issues within the RDC team.
- To participate in audit activities and engage with SELCA research projects
- To ensure keeping of accurate and contemporaneous records
- To participate in regular appraisal of performance and training needs
- To participate in education and training activities
This post requires a general practitioner who has successfully attained their MRCGP qualification. In addition, the following is required:
- An excellent clinician who can bring their General Practice expertise to the RDC.
- Ideally, experience of secondary care oncology as part of their current or previous placements / jobs. This can be experience as part of GPVTS training.
- Enthusiasm to develop their knowledge and skills in oncology.
- Is committed to team working in a multi-professional setting.
- Understands the importance of audit and research in the continuing development of oncology practice.
