An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated staff nurses / ODPs to join King's Day Surgery unit in our anaesthetic/ recovery team roles, to provide the highest standard of pre, intra and post-operative care to patients. We offer a supportive consolidation period for all of our new starters, as well as excellent educational opportunities, from in house study courses to post graduate education through King's College London, London Southbank University or University of Greenwich.

Our Practice Development Team provides structured teaching support to all staff, and our development programs are well established.

King's (Denmark Hill site) Day Surgery Unit consists of 7 operating theatres which include specialities such as Gynaecology, General Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Dental, Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, Urology, Paediatric and endoscopy, catering for patients of all ages, from neonates to the elderly. All areas enjoy the reputation of being a world leader in innovative surgical interventions and clinical excellence.

We welcome applications from experienced staff as well as newly qualified Operating Department Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

You will work within the day surgery unit based in the anaesthetics / recovery team rotating across these 2 areas however, candidates with additional skills in scrub or nurse led discharge are encouraged to maintain these skills as we have a multi- skilled staff focus.

Day surgery operates Monday to Saturday. We care for patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical procedures including termination of pregnancy. It is expected that all staff participate in the care of these patients.

You will be responsible for providing excellent care to our day case patients, being an enthusiastic member of our staff team and being able to competently manage your work load by being fully prepared for lists when working in anaesthetics and being able to recover patients in a timely manner as part of the recovery team on the day.

The shift patterns for the team are 0800 to 18.00 with occasional recovery shift is 8.30 to 18.30.
