An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Adult ward nurse at Day Surgery Unit. Would you like to be part of our busy and dedicated ward staff in the Day Surgery Unit at Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), part of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust? Well look no further.

We are seeking for an experienced, registered nurse who is professional with excellent surgical ward nursing skills and up-to-date knowledge in Gynaecology, Vascular, General Surgery, General/Breast surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Dental surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Pain, Cardioversion, Max Fax, Paediatrics and ENT - Ears, Nose and Throat.

You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities and as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, you will have the ability to support student nurses, trainee nurse associates, healthcare assistances and nurse colleagues to deliver excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Alan Cummings Day Surgery Unit at the PRUH, is made up of 6 theatres, a 30 bedded ward area which operate Monday to Friday, in a variety of specialities such as Gynaecology, General Surgery, ENT, Max Fax, Dental Surgery, Vascular surgery and Urology. The unit caters to adult and paediatric patients.

You will be a registered RN and the ability to demonstrate recent clinical experience at Band 5 is essential. You must also have the mentorship course or be SSSA trained and the skills to develop and manage the performance of junior staff and students.

In return we will offer you the ability to advance your skills and aim to provide you with training both in the clinical area through our practice development team and through our Kings Partners Higher Education Institutions.

As a Band 5 Ward Nurse you will:-

  • Provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both preoperative and postoperative patients and their relatives
  • Assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Unit complement
  • Act as a clinical resource within the Department and across the Division as necessary
  • Act as a positive role model to junior staff members
  • Take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Matron/ Service Manager / Ward Manager/ Junior Sister
  • Liaise with the site practitioners when required, regarding patient treatment/beds advice.
