Job summary
The Department of infection Sciences at Kings is delighted to advertise these two newly created posts available to start as soon as possible. Although substantive, they will be subject to a 12 month probationary period being confirmed after this. Standard hours of duty will be 40 hours per week; additional out-of-hours commitments may be included according to experience.
These two posts are aimed primarily at qualified clinicians wishing to gain clinical experience in Medical Microbiology and infectious diseases.
Main duties of the job
The post-holders will work with the Medical Microbiologists, Infectious Diseases physicians, Infection Prevention and Control nurses and Antimicrobial pharmacists to provide microbiology and infection management service at the PRUH and South Sites.
The main duties include providing advice regarding appropriate specimens type, validation and interpretation of results for transmission to clinicians, and involvement in the management of patients through full clinical liaison during ward rounds or via telephone consults.

Our team has a clinically driven focus on infection management that incorporates innovative diagnostic approaches and encourages academia, with the overall objective to improve patient outcomes.
You will be part of the Infection team at the PRUH providing infection management advice to hospital staff and locally to the general practitioners. You will be part of regular ward rounds to the Critical care units, Childrens ward, the neonatal intensive care unit, acute medical/surgical wards and haematology/oncology unit. There are also weekly multi-disciplinary meetings with cardiology, trauma and orthopaedics, and haematology/oncology teams. The lab process around 500,000 samples every year and the medical microbiology team deal with significant results. The successful candidates will be based at the PRUH and be part of dynamic infection sciences team at PRUH and Denmark Hill (DH) sites with expertise across a broad range of areas including mycology, infection control, infectious diseases and virology. There is also an opportunity to work across at the Denmark Hill site for Infectious diseases training if desired

- MBBS or other registerable medical qualification
- Completion of at least 3 years' postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time/flexible basis
- Applications that are either partially or non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to UK qualifications
- Full Registration with the GMC

- MRCP or equivalent qualification
- Other higher degree or Diploma (e.g. Diploma of Tropical Medicine or relevant MSc or PhD
