Job summary
This is a one year senior fellowship in Adult Epilepsy and Adult Metabolic Diseases between King's College Hospital Foundation Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. It is intended for a neurology trainee towards the end of or on completion of his/her specialty training. The contract will be held at KCH.
Main duties of the job
The fellow will gain expertise in:
- All aspects of the investigation, diagnosis and acute and chronic medical management of patients with epilepsy (both inpatient and outpatient). This will include experience across the range of epilepsy-related work in our quaternary referral centre; from first presentation, through outpatient management of the full spectrum of patients with epilepsy as well as the role of and/or work up for less frequent interventions (e.g. 'bluteq' prescribing for restricted medications, epilepsy surgery, vagal nerve stimulation, ketogenic diet). The fellow will be expected to gain expertise in the interpretation and use of electroencephalography in epilepsy
- Adult metabolic disorders and their management with a focus on neurological presentations, including urgent neurological presentations such as metabolic encephalopathy.
The fellow will be based in the neuroscience unit at KCH and the metabolic service at GSTT. The fellow will work in a broad range of environments (outpatients, neurophysiology, subspecialty and inpatient input, multidisciplinary metabolic and epilepsy meetings, medical and surgical)
The post, not only will provide excellent training for the appointed fellow, but also be of benefit to patients at King's and GSTT, and help with workforce planning.
