Job summary

King's College Hospital's Occupational Health and Wellbeing department is dedicated to providing a high quality, efficient and supportive service to the staff of Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust and other associated organisations across several sites in South East London.

You will be a qualified occupational health practitioner with a post registration Occupational Health qualification (Special Community Public Health Nurse or equivalent) preferably with NHS experience, looking for the next step in your Occupational Health career.

Main duties of the job

To undertake clinical activities as directed by the Service Manager, Principal Nurse Advisor or their nominated deputy to include - vaccination clinics, health screening, case management, health surveillance work, environmental visits/risk assessments, attendance management, health promotion activities (and presentations), ergonomic assessments/training as required and become involved in corporate inductions or clinical projects as required.

To act as an autonomous practitioner and provide professional advice onOccupational Health issues.

To ensure the effective delivery of a work protection immunisation programme forLewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust staff and other external contracts as required.

To ensure an effective employment screening service is in place which advisesmanagement and Human Resources of applicant's fitness and DisabilityDiscrimination Act requirements.

To undertake sickness absence reviews, and advise on disability in regards to theEquality Act in line with the Trust's sickness absence policy, promoting equality andvaluing diversity.

Act as a specialist resource and advisory service to Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust Staff and managers as well as external contract stakeholders.

Job responsibilities

To provide professional mentorship to the junior occupational health staff under thedirection of the Service Manager or Principal Nurse Advisor.Clinical responsibility for overseeing junior staff in a on a day to day basis

To participate in the development of policies, procedures, SOPs and clinical operatingguidelines which are in line with evidence based practice.

To ensure agreed standards are met by participating in clinical audit.

To ensure active and effective delivery of Occupational Health services to the Trust and external clients.

To work closely with the Occupational Health Consultant Physicians to case manage referrals to the Department as triaged by the Head of Nursing.Support contract management and assistance with SLA development as directed by the Service Manager or senior nursing staff.To be accountable for ordering and auditing clinical supplies and vaccinations as required for the smooth running of the practice nurse clinics as directed by the Senior Specialist Nurse Advisors and Service Manager

To ensure that any adverse incidents or complaints are reported to the Manager and recorded in line with Trust and departmental policy

To ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and be responsible for theimplementation of safe working practices within the Department of Occupational Healthand Wellbeing, including ensuring training of staff, maintenance and/or replacement ofequipment as necessary.

Ensures compliance with the Trusts Equality and Diversity Policy, supporting thedelivery of the Trusts Race Equality Scheme and the Trusts duty to positively promoterace equality and equality of opportunity for disabled people ensuring services areresponsive to the needs of equality groups.

Promote and maintain good working relationships with other departments and the multi-disciplinary team.

To be actively involved with any plans in relation to service development, serviceimprovement, and the resolution of any on-going problems.

To be aware of wider Trust objectives, regional and national policy and their impact onlocal service delivery.

To take a leadership role in a crisis situation.

To assist with the ongoing organisation of the department, including contributing positively towards the delivery of a cost-effective service, and assisting the ServiceManager or Senior Specialist Nurse Advisor to keep within agreed resources.
