Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 RN in the Orthopaedic Outpatient Department at Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill site. We are looking for a registered nurse in fracture clinic that has excellent communication skills to ensure that patients are supported as much as possible. The successful candidate will gain a wide-ranging exposure from simple to complex trauma and orthopaedic conditions in all age groups.

As an outpatient registered nurse, you are required to have excellent communication and negotiation skills as you will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team and must be flexible to meet service demands.

Main duties of the job

Manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care

Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.

Ensuring the rules, policies, procedures and standards of Kings College Hospital NHS Trust Foundation together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations are adhered to at all times.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivering high quality, evidence-based and patient focused clinical care through:

  • Conducting patient assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients with Orthopaedic conditions
  • Providing patient education on Orthopaedic conditions, treatments, medications, and rehabilitation exercises
  • Performing wound care for patients who have undergone Orthopaedic surgery, including dressing changes and wound assessment
  • Administering medications as prescribed by the physicians and monitor patients for any adverse reactions or side effects
  • Applying and removing casts, splints, and providing educate patients on the care and maintenance of Orthopaedic devices
  • Ordering XRays (training will be provided), to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Monitoring patients for any signs of complications or adverse events and take necessary steps to prevent harm
  • Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients.
  • Ensuring good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times.
  • Adhering to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times.
  • Involving and supporting patients, relatives, carers and friends in the care process.
  • Promoting well-being and involving patients and relatives in health education.
