Job summary
We are looking for a compassionate leader with managerial experience and skills to lead our Ophthalmology Department nursing and technician team at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.
You will be a caring individual who demonstrates a receptive attitude to change with an ability to challenge practice in a supportive manner.
As an excellent communicator and coordinator you will be an integral part of the multi professional team, with excellent organisational skills who can prioritise their workload and that of the service.
This is a busy service which provides a comprehensive range of outpatient sub-speciality clinics and procedures for both adults and children. We are ideally looking for someone with Ophthalmology experience, who are keen to develop a leadership role.
These are exciting times as we open a new technician delivered area and recruit to key positions to strengthen and develop our workforce so the team continue to provide specialist knowledge, skills, interventions and implement new ways of working for continued quality improvement.
The service is operational 7 days week, and the successful candidate would be expected to work flexibly.

Main duties of the job
- Professional leadership for the nursing and technician team
- To support the role of the Matron and Head of Nursing in developing and implementing a strategic development plan for service, nursing and technician workforce. Professional leadership for the nursing and technician team
- To ensure the effective line management of the nursing and technician team
- To lead with providing quality care for patients attending the Ophthalmology Department
- Coordinate staffing allocation to meet service activity
- To act as a resource for education and development within the service while developing their own interest and/or experience in this clinical speciality.
