Job summary
The focus and purpose of the Paediatric Research Nurse is to assist in conducting paediatric clinical research studies in Kings College Hospital and across Kings Health Partners Academic Health Science Centre. The postholder will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies. This will involve the recruitment, education and monitoring of children in studies and the collection and documentation of accurate data. You will work collaboratively with the clinical studies team and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the management of children in clinical studies.
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate the care of clinical study participants and providing a high standard of clinical and research nursing care within a multi-professional research team.
To work within NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to King's Policy and procedures.
To ensure the safe preparation and administration of treatments and drugs that are given within the context of a clinical study.
To act as the patient advocate ensuring their rights are protected at all times.
To ensure blood and other samples are collected for pharmacokinetic studies as required by the trial protocol.
To report and record serious adverse events that occur whilst the child is in the clinical trial to the trial co-coordinator/principal investigator (PI) and relevant local personnel/regulatory authorities.
To provide ongoing follow up care whilst child is in the clinical study.
To act as a primary contact point (for study issues) for the child and family in a clinical study child.
To promote children's well-being and safeguard them from harm, working within agreed policies for reporting concerns including concerns about colleagues.
To assist the team in identifying strategies for recruiting children to clinical studies.
To ensure that you work according to GCP and research governance standards for clinical studies.
To facilitate the informed consent process, ensuring appropriate information and educational literature is available

All relevant and mandatory research training will be provided.
The successful candidate will be part of a team that manages a portfolio of challenging and interesting clinical trials in various disorders in Paediatric research.
The successful candidate will experience tasks such as patient recruitment, study assessments, blood collection and processing, data entry and data management alongside administrative tasks as needed for the clinical trials activities within RDU 9.
The post is focused on providing the successful candidate with experience in commercial and non-commercial clinical trials by carrying out research activities, aimed at improving the care and treatment of the paediatric patients.
The successful candidate will develop a close working relationship with the inpatient and outpatient support services and be invited to the clinical trial team meetings.
The successful candidate will work towards being proficient in managing his/her own research workload effectively and completing trial documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
