Job summary
The Liver ITU provides the most comprehensive service for the management of critically ill patients with liverdisease nationally (acute liver failure, decompensated chronic liver disease, hepatobilary surgery and trauma and liver transplantation) and has a reputation for innovative research into novel clinical treatments such asextra corporeal liver support. The ITU facilities are located in a 15 bed area in close proximity to the liver wards, theatres and laboratories and separate 4 bed area primarily used for level 2 patients; LITU forms part ofthe ITU/HDU complex taking the total bed pool to 19.
Main duties of the job
Every afternoon, at 16:00, a multidisciplinary meeting is undertaken where all patients are discussed by theintensivists, hepatologists and liver transplant/HPB surgeons.

Critical Care Units at Kings provide all modalities of multi-organ support and monitoring. Services are provided by dedicated teams utilising the most up-to-date clinical practices including a 24/7 V-A ECMO service. The department consists of a multi-professional team including medical, nursing, pharmacy, dietetics and therapy staff, with audit, risk, project and technical support, research personnel, as well as rehabilitation, social services, administrative and follow-up clinic staff.
The department is recognised for all stages of critical care training by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM). There is an active and varied educational programme with which all doctors are expected to participate. This includes weekly teaching sessions mapped to the FICM curriculum, journal club, M&M meetings and departmental research and audit meetings. In addition there are other educational opportunities including simulation based training.

CCU-A: 15 beds CCU-B: 14 beds Liver ITU: 19 beds (specialist liver service)
