Analytical & Judgement Skills
Conduct risk assessments in relation to resuscitation issues across the trust and report findings to clinical risk manager; undertake root cause analysis as required for resuscitation incidents.
Provide expert advice and analysis to clinicians and clinical risk department regarding critical incidents relating to resuscitation across the trust.
Lead, monitor, analyse and respond to resuscitation incidents reported on the trust incident reporting system and undertake case note reviews as required.
Responsible for the investigation of compliance against National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) alerts relating to resuscitation that are received by the trust, develop action plans and implement corrective action as required. Prepare reports regarding compliance for clinical risk and resuscitation committee.
Responsible for the advice on the safety and appropriateness of resuscitation equipment used within the trust; ensuring that all appropriate groups are involved in decision related to equipment purchase.
Analyse, interpret and present data to highlight issues, risks and support decision making.
Planning & Organisation Skills
Work as an autonomous practitioner and prioritise the complexities within your own workload.
Organise and course direct on Resuscitation council courses (ALS, APLS/EPLS, GIC) and other courses involving planning and organising programmes, ensuring venues, arranging candidates, faculty, and all relevant course documentation and reports
Using a pro-active approach in the management of risk within their sphere of responsibility.
Clinical
Accountable for own autonomous practice and responsible for maintaining and improving personal knowledge and professional competence (e.g. defibrillation, intravenous cannulation, intravenous drug administration, pacing and ECG recognition) as required to support advanced life support during resuscitation and with due regard to safety and expertise of other team members.
Attend cardiac arrest calls as appropriate, to act as team leader and give highly specialist clinical advice, with regard to latest research evidence, acting as an effective role model.
Hold an emergency bleep and respond to clinical emergencies (e.g. adult, paediatric, maternal and neo-natal cardiac arrest calls; adult and child trauma calls; medical emergency calls), assuming leadership of or acting as an integral member within the multi-disciplinary team as necessary.
Provide expert advice on resuscitation policy and procedure across all levels of clinical practice as well as to patients and/or their relatives as necessary, in the pre, peri or post arrest period as well as during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Ensure adherence, wherever possible during resuscitation, to safe handling techniques, control of infection etc and when this cannot be achieved ensure appropriate referral and follow-up is instigated (e.g. Critical Incident Reporting, Risk Assessment, Occupational Health Referral etc).
Provide support and explanation to patients and relatives about resuscitation decisions and procedures as required.
Participate as a senior leader in Peer review of clinical areas.
Maintain clinical proficiency through clinical practice shifts back to the floor in line with the trust values.
To maintain own professional and clinical development, by keeping up to date with the latest research and evidence related to resuscitation. Revise training objectives and content based on new evidence.
Ensure members of the Resuscitation teams are fully conversant and proficient in appropriate resuscitation techniques.
Policy & Service Development Implementation
Work with the Senior Lead Resuscitation Practitioner to execute the long-term strategies for the standardisation of equipment throughout the trust and ensure this is adhered to.
Act as a lead for resuscitation issues across the trust and work with divisional mangers to advise and implement resuscitation policy.
Initiate preliminary corrective action in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines and report incidents to appropriate managers.
Support the delivery of day-to-day activities and projects.
Education & Training
To participate in resuscitation training and education in resuscitation practices in conjunction with the Senior Resuscitation Lead Practitioner.
To participate in the planning, organisation, and implementation of training programmes in all aspects of resuscitation to staff and students within the Trust.
Create a positive learning environment through the provision of support and advice to staff in clinical areas and those attending training courses.
Deliver education courses to clinical staff at all levels inclusive of adult, paediatric and newborn training both in-house and national courses. Provide training for Dental Emergencies and bespoke training as required. You will ensure outcome based assessments/key standards are achieved and staff debriefed as appropriate.
To work towards completing the Service Onboarding document including cross training in National Course delivery.
Facilitate the execution of resuscitation mandatory training targets in line Trust Policy and National Guidance.
In conjunction with the Senior Resuscitation Lead Practitioner work closely with education, training and development work force and heads of Nursing and respond to the feedback from CQC inspections.
Ensure all resuscitation training is based on the latest evidence and adheres to Resuscitation Council (UK) and Trust guidelines.
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of research and latest evidence which will inform practice.
To be fully conversant with the operational resuscitation policy for Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and all equipment used clinically and for training.
In conjunction with the resuscitation service lead participate in the coordination and planning of nationally accredited courses in resuscitation.
To improving patient care, leading and participating in Trust Wide projects and research innovations as directed by the Senior Resuscitation Lead Practitioner.
Managerial & Personal Skills
Work closely with other emergency response teams (critical care outreach and iMobile). To have good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to different groups of people.
Ability to organise and plan workload effectively.
Assist in maintaining stock, controlling stock levels and liaising with procurement as required.
Knowledge of budget management.
Coordinate and produce reports as required and presenting findings at the Resuscitation Committee, Deteriorating Patient Group and other Trust meetings as required.
Attend Trust-wide meetings and deputise/present on behalf of the Resuscitation Service.
To participate in the National Cardiac Arrest Audit for the Trust to collect, input the data and to present reports to the Resuscitation Committee, Deteriorating Patient Group and Critical Care outreach meetings.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages.
A flexible approach to working patterns is required and longer hours will be required on national courses.
To be willing to travel between different sites in order to fulfil the requirements of the post.
Physically able to cope with the demands of the role including the pace required to attend emergency calls, participating in clinical resuscitation, preparing for courses/national courses which requires moving resuscitation manikins and other equipment to the site of the training.
Human Resources (inc developing and delivery training)
In collaboration with Resuscitation Services Senior Lead Practitioner, develop, implement and evaluate in-service education and training in Basic life support, advanced life support (adult, paediatric and newborn), prevention of cardiac arrest, including management of anaphylaxis, for all healthcare workers within the trust.
On direction from the Resuscitation Services Senior Lead Practitioner, implement and review testing and assessment methods that accurately indicate that staff have achieved the desired level of knowledge and proficiency in basic and advanced life support techniques (adult, paediatric and newborn).
Promote a positive learning environment, sharing knowledge, and instruct staff in new policies and procedure changes to ensure the provision of high-quality patient care.
Teach in the clinical area as required, using simulation exercises if appropriate.
Lead, monitor and respond proactively to issues affecting capacity and capability.
Initiate preliminary corrective action in accordance with Trust Policies and Guidelines, and report incidents to appropriate managers.
Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of any other person who may be affected by acts or omissions at work on your part.
Information Resources
Compile and analyse qualitative and quantitative information to develop robust business cases and contribute to various projects as required.
Evaluate the need for Resuscitation Council (UK) and other external courses; set an agreed annual plan for courses and take responsibility for the role as the course director and faculty as required.
Research & Development

Cardiac arrest calls.
Arrest Trolley equipment/placements.
Equipment Audit (resuscitation clinical equipment and training equipment.
Ensure any deficiencies are highlighted to the resuscitation committee and appropriate department managers.
Initiate other resuscitation audit (such as DNACPR) and research projects as appropriate.
