Job summary
There is an opportunity to join a great team at one of the leading teaching hospitals in the country, King's College Hospital. King's College Hospital is a busy tertiary referral hospital offering emergency and trauma care and the post holder will be required to participate in the emergency surgery rota and also be part of the Major Trauma firm looking after patients admitted to King's Trauma Centre.
The emphasis of the fellowship is on the advanced endoscopic diagnosis and endosurgical treatment of colorectal neoplasia. The successful candidate will be trained in advanced endoscopic diagnosis techniques including magnification endoscopy, endocytoscopy and colonoscopic ultrasound and will be expected to conduct regular advanced diagnostic endoscopy lists.
The fellow will also be trained in advanced resection techniques to achieve competence in supervised and independent colorectal EMR and ESD. The fellow will attend regular theatre lists to perform endoscopic resection under general anaesthesia as well as laparoscopic colorectal resections (cancer and benign) and transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) for early cancer.
Main duties of the job
- Be competent in independently performing advanced endoscopic diagnosis and decision making regarding resection
- Be competent in performing EMR/pEMR for large lesions throughout the colon
- Be competent in independent ESD for large rectal lesions
- Gain experience under supervision in colonic ESD
- Be competent in independent laparoscopic right and left hemicolectomy, high anterior resection and low anterior resection depending on case difficulty
- Be able to perform TEMs for early rectal cancer
