Main duties of the job

  • The Resuscitation service operates across all Trust sites. This post is primarily based at King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill site). There will be some cross site working for this post.

  • The post holder will work closely with the service manager and senior resuscitation officers to facilitate the provision of a highly efficient resuscitation service.

  • To participate in resuscitation training and education in resuscitation practices in conjunction with the senior resuscitation team. Specific portfolio adult & paediatric basic life support along with adult & paediatric immediate life support.

  • To be assist the Resuscitation Officers and Senior Resuscitation officers as a clinical member of the resuscitation team, providing assistance to the team where necessary.

  • To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner in promoting Resuscitation skills and standards supported by current scientific guidance from the Resuscitation Council (UK).

  • Under the supervision of the wider resuscitation team, provide professional advice to all areas of the organisation concerning resuscitation issues, including policy development, training, clinical governance, and equipment issues

  • To participate in quality improvement audits both locally and nationally (National Cardiac Arrest Audit)

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical

  • Provide expert advice and clinical support to the resuscitation teams in the field of clinical resuscitation practice and management of deteriorating patients.

  • To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner in promoting Resuscitation skills and standards supported by current scientific guidance from the Resuscitation Council (UK).

  • Attend, with the support of a senior, resuscitation calls supporting, facilitating and debriefing the team and family as appropriate.

  • Participate in the audit of resuscitation equipment/risk management to ensure standards are being maintained in clinical areas.

  • To be accountable for own continued academic and professional development. Promote an innovative, progressive attitude and take opportunities to sustain, improve knowledge and clinical/ professional competence.

  • Assist in the date collection of all in hospital cardiac arrest and to be heavily involved in their respective clinical review.

Education/Training

  • To lead/participate in resuscitation training and education in resuscitation practices in conjunction with the senior resuscitation team. Specific portfolio adult & paediatric basic life support along with adult & paediatric immediate life support.

  • Be responsible for contributing to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of training in BLS, PBLS ILS &PILS

  • Create a positive learning environment through the provision of support and advice to staff in clinical areas and those attending training courses.

  • Ensure all resuscitation training is based on the latest evidence and adheres to Resuscitation Council (UK) and Trust guidelines.

  • To work towards becoming an instructor in Immediate life support and paediatric immediate life support (if not already).

  • To be fully conversant with the operational resuscitation policy for Kings College Hospital and all equipment used clinically and for training.

  • There will be the opportunity to lead/participate in Trust Wide projects and research innovations as directed by your manager.

Leadership and Personal Skills

  • To have good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to different groups of people and in small teams.

  • Ability to organise and plan workload effectively and efficiently.

  • Work flexibly and autonomously, having agreed clear objectives and plans with the service lead.

  • Assist in maintaining stock, controlling stock levels and liaise with procurement as required.

  • Assist in coordinating and producing reports as required and presenting findings at the Resuscitation Committee, deteriorating patient group and other Trust meetings as required

  • To participate in the National Cardiac Arrest Audit for the Trust to help collect, input the data and to present reports to the Resuscitation Committee, Deteriorating Patient and Critical Care outreach meetings.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • A flexible approach to working patterns is required and longer hours will be required when running national courses.

  • Physically able to cope with the demands of the role including the pace required to attend emergency calls, participating in clinical resuscitation, preparing for courses/nationals courses which requires moving resuscitation manikins and other equipment to the site of the training.
