Job summary

Main duties of the job
Clinical:
- Daily review of Endocrine In-patients
- Attendance and participation at Out-patient diabetes and Endocrine clinics - attendance at Bariatric Clinic is encouraged but not essential.
- Receive and discuss Endocrine referrals from In-patients admitted under General Paediatrics and sub-specialty teams and DG external Hospitals in the region
- Supervise and collate results on in-patient dynamic function tests (Day Ward)
- Present cases at monthly pituitary MDT and weekly Endocrine Team meetings
- Participate in the General Paediatric on-call rota
Teaching:
- Assistance in conjunction with consultants and more junior trainees with the teaching of undergraduates and Nurses as appropriate
Research:
- Involvement in the Research and Academic presentation interests of the Department are encouraged / supported

Inpatient services at Variety Childrens Hospital at Kings are based on 8 wards with over 120 beds, including:
- An award winning 6 bedded paediatric short stay unit
- A 16 bedded paediatric intensive care unit specialising in liver and neurosurgery, as well as major trauma and general paediatric admissions
- A 36 bedded regional Neonatal intensive care unit, accepting local, national and specialist surgical patients
- A 18 bedded Liver, gastroenterology and nutrition ward
- A 15 bedded general paediatric ward which includes a level 2 Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU), paediatric haematology, respiratory and regional cystic fibrosis beds
- A 9 bedded medical day case unit
- A 11 bedded surgical ward
- A 10 bedded neurosurgical/neurology ward

The Kings Paediatric Endocrinology Service provides expert knowledge, advice and support to children and young people with endocrine problems, and their families, from the point of diagnosis until they are transitioned through to the adult endocrine service. We provide a high standard of care in line with nationally agreed standards; British Society Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, NICE guidelines and South Thames Newborn screening programme.
