Job summary
The Department of Urology, Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is looking for enthusiastic and committed Consultant Urology Surgeon with a Specialist Interest in Andrology.
This is a full time post (10 Programmed Activities) with additional programmed activities available subject to negotiation with the successful candidate. Applicants should have a broad experience of Urological Surgery.
The Department of Urology at King's College Hospital is split over three main sites at Denmark Hill, The Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington and providing outpatient clinics at Beckenham Beacon in Beckenham. King's College Hospital's vision for the urology service is to deliver a seamless service, provided across these sites with the future vision to ultimately work through a single on call rota. Our outpatients unit based at Beckenham Beacon will continue to be invested in and developed as the state of the art dedicated urology diagnostic centre for the Trust with specialist, one stop cancer and local anesthetic (LA) TP prostate biopsy services.
The post-holder will undertake a combination of outpatient sessions and operating lists across PRUH sites and be expected to take an active role in research and development. All consultants are encouraged to participate in the teaching programs of the department with trainee doctors.
Main duties of the job
The post holder reports to the clinical lead and is accountable to the clinical director and ultimately the medical director. This is a substantive consultant post. The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for urology patients. The post holder will need to have an interest and expertise in Andrology `.
In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

Job responsibilities
- Together with the other Consultant Urologists, to provide a service for Kings This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.
- Shared responsibility with the other Consultant Urologist for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Divisional management team.
- Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trusts R&D framework.
- Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
- Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the departments/ Divisions Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agencies.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.
- Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
- Undertake Divisional management duties as agreed with the Divisional/departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
