This post is designed to provide a wide range of educational experience for SpRs/StRs who wish to make a commitment to education as part of their career. This is a twelve month 'out of programme (OOPE) post aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience to develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.
Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central to the post, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing postgraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.
This post is ideally designed for ST2 - 7 level trainees to:
- Develop/ expand their skills in Simulation and Medical Education
- Gain experience in a wide range of medical education activities
Provide an opportunity to undertake research in Medical Education
Main duties of the job
Clinical responsibilities will be dependant on the post holder's clinical experience and will be tailored to that individual.
Learning outcomes for this post include
- Gain an understanding of simulation as an educational modality
- Be able to develop and run a simulation training episode at course director level
- Be provided with an opportunity to gain an educational qualification to the level of certificate or above
- Produce first author publications.
When working within the centre the post holder will be expected to contribute to the running of the centre on a day-to-day level working closely with the established PGMDE team. They will be expected to develop the capability to work without supervision in simulation but will be fully supported as they develop this skill. They will be expected to develop an understanding of all modes of simulation including human factors.
