Job summary

King's College Hospital Endoscopy Unit is delighted to advertise for dynamic, interested individuals to join our team as Clinical Fellows in Endoscopy (four posts, full-time). Applications are welcome from Gastroenterology, Surgical and international trainees with appropriate accreditation.

The purpose of these posts is to support service delivery and covid recovery in particular the provision of weekend endoscopy (on a 1:8 basis) as well as weekday backfill and infill for vacant lists. As such, successful candidates must be fully accredited to perform independent upper and lower GI endoscopy.

Candidates should express, in their application, an interest to join one of the following clinical and research themes (with the opportunity to cross-cover between individuals) with supporting reasoning:

  • Therapeutic endoscopy (EMR/ESD, POEM, G-POEM, Bariatrics)
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Acute hepatology/ACT service
  • Artificial intelligence and cancer screening.

Choice of theme will be discussed at interview and allocated on discussion with theme leads and appropriateness to the experience and interests of applicants. For interested candidates, support towards a higher degree may be considered.

Main duties of the job

  1. Together with the other team members, to deliver elective endoscopy including backfill and weekend endoscopy as a timetabled activity
  2. Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework.
  3. Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
  4. Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
  5. Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
  6. Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.

The post holder will be based at Denmark Hill, participating as a Fellow at JAG-independent level in Endoscopy, with an emphasis on service delivery general endoscopy for covid recovery.

All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trusts sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following: -

  • The provision of a first class clinical service
  • To commit to weekend working in endoscopy to 1:8 Sat/Sun
  • Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Kings College London / KHP
  • Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
  • Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans
  • Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Division or the Trust
