Job summary
This post is a standalone trust F1 post, and the post holder will NOT be part of the South Thames Foundation School (STFS).
Although these appointments are not accredited for training, the appointees will be expected to participate fully in the educational and training programmes within each department and the hospital. Appointees will have a named educational supervisor. Annual leave and study leave iscommensurate with other post foundation doctors. The experience and opportunities offered would be an excellent experience for applicants planning a career in medicine.

Main duties of the job
- Taking patient histories and carrying out routine patient examinations
- Communicating with patients
- Provide day to day medical care under supervision
- Clerking patients admitted on emergency take days
- Running pre-assessment clinics
- Preparation and submission of theatre lists
- Participating in in-patient and day surgery operating lists
- Requesting investigations / treatments for patients
- Attending and undertaking ward rounds as required
- Providing cover for colleagues in an emergency and when on annual / study leave
- Participating in the training of medical students attached to the Firm
- Providing discharge summaries etc. to promote good liaison with General Practitioners
- Liaison with patients' relatives
- Providing on-call services as required
- Participation in data collection and processing
- Attendance at weekly FY1 teaching sessions, Tuesday or Thursday lunchtime.

This post is not recognised for surgical training but is suited to doctors who wish to pursue a career in Orthopaedics. The appointee will receive the same educational training programme as other foundation trainees.
