This first Roger Williams Clinical Research Fellowship will provide a unique opportunity for an exceptional clinical trainee to undertake translational liver research at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology (RW-IoH) affiliated with King's College London (KCL), with complementary clinical sessions at the Institute of Liver Studies (ILS) King's College Hospital (KCH). These are the key institutions founded by Professor Williams CBE over his 60-year career in Hepatology and their ongoing collaborative work underscores his vision and strong commitment to clinical translational research
This prestigious 1-year Fellowship is designed to offer an 80:20 split between Clinical Translational Research at the RW-IoH and Clinical Hepatology Service Provision/Training at KCH. Dependent on satisfactory progress during the initial 12-month post, the Fellow will be strongly encouraged to apply for research council funding and to register with KCL to pursue a higher degree (MD/PhD) with preliminary data generated during this period. This post is envisaged as a springboard for candidates wishing to pursue a clinical academic career
The IoH has a strong track record translational research in liver disease and KCL has a similar strength in the study of fungal immunopathology. Working with an academic supervisor, the post holder will be required to proactively design and run experiments and to record, analyse and write up data with a view to publication in a high impact peer reviewed journal

The aim of this post is to allow the successful applicant to focus on a laboratory-based research project alongside clinical sessions working within the Advanced Chronic Liver Disease service ,to acquire pilot data that will facilitate an application for Research Council Funding such as MRC or NIHR Doctoral Fellowship. This post is ideal for individuals who are mid-way through their Specialist Training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and it is envisaged as a springboard for candidates wishing to pursue a clinical academic career.
