Job summary
The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Denmark Hill site, is looking for an enthusiastic and committed respiratory physician with a specialist interest in sleep.
We welcome candidates who are keen to shape new models of care through the Modernising Medicine programme, building upon areas of good practice at King's and drawing on innovative practices at a regional and a national level. The appointee will be joining an expanding team of multidisciplinary professionals to support senior clinical decision-making throughout our medical pathway.
The post will involve other aspects of general respiratory medicine and a requirement to contribute to the out-of-hours on call rota for general medicine.
We aim to support colleagues' sub-specialty interest and work collaboratively with services across at Denmark Hill site for research, educational and simulation work.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the DBS to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Main duties of the job
The appointed consultant will join a friendly, supportive and enthusiastic respiratory team that works collaboratively with the matron, manager and wider multidisciplinary team. They will work closely with colleagues from other medical specialities.
The remit of the post-holder will be to work within the multidisciplinary team to support sleep and NIV services as well as General Respiratory and medical services.
The team are committed to the continued development of acute and general medicine, including delivering same-day emergency care, robust seven-day working and the highest standards across patient safety, experience and operational performance. The appointee will be expected to work closely with system partners to support streamlined admission and discharge pathways.
The appointee will be expected to help Respiratory medicine further develop a service fit for the future needs of our local population whilst ensuring that current service provision continues to be high-value and delivered to the highest standard. The appointed individual will be required to work cohesively within the department and with other tertiary services at King's to provide expertise and support. The post holder will have both general medicine and respiratory responsibilities to both inpatients and outpatients, and may include procedures such as bronchoscopy and pleural. There will be outpatient clinic commitments per week.

- Shared responsibility with colleagues for providing 24 hour, 7 day a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.

- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
